Q. How come you are not open like a retail bakery? Do I really have to make an appointment?
A. The Hudson Cakery operates almost like a caterer. We can have a small order for you ready (cupcakes, cookies, dessert-style cakes, cake pops) in less than 3 business days but we have nothing readily available for you to purchase same day. Why? Because of the custom decorating nature of our business, we need some time to perfect the details of your order. Since we cater each order to our clients, everything is custom made just for you so we need a few days notice for all small order.

No, you do not need to make an actual appointment to place an order. Simply call or email us with your event details and we will respond with pricing and design ideas. “By Appointment Only” is a fancy way of saying “So sorry, but we do not sell readily available baked goods”.

Q. Do you ship your cakes?
A. The Hudson Cakery cannot ship our cakes as they are too fragile.

Q. How much are your custom cakes and wedding cakes?

Please check out this article for more insight on how we price out our orders here. Because each cake is custom made for each event, there is no general price list for our creations. Anything that can feed 50 guests or less usually has a flat fee. Each cake that feeds more than 50 guests is priced per slice. Our cakes range from $7 to $15/slice and increase depending on detail. Because of the detail and attention we give to each order, we must require a minimum of $250 on all of our fondant custom cakes and a $300 minimum for all fondant tiered cakes.

Q. Where do you deliver and how much is it? Can we pick up our order?
A. We deliver anywhere in NJ, NY, Eastern PA and CT. Delivery charges are a flat fee based on location.

Yes you may pick up your order. Please place your cake box on a flat surface in your car (i.e. back trunk) where your air conditioning may reach it. Do not put your cake on a slanted back seat or in your lap. To ensure a smooth delivery, please drive slow over pot holes/turns and do not slam on your brakes when driving.

Q. What do you cover your cakes with?
A. Every cake is covered with a swiss meringue buttercream, then a very thin layer of rolled fondant for a polished look. We also make dessert-style buttercream cakes.

Q. Is a deposit necessary to reserve my wedding/event date?
A. Yes, a 50% deposit is needed to reserve your order. All deposits are non-refundable.

Q. How far in advance should I order a cake?
A. The sooner the better – but we suggest at least 3 to 8 months in advance for wedding or large orders. We’d be happy to accommodate last minute orders if our schedule allows. But it is never too soon to book your order!!! Custom fondant cake orders made in less than two weeks time is subject to a rush fee of $25.

Q. Do you offer tastings to potential clients?
A. Yes! You and two guests may sample up to 6 cakes & 6 filling options. We bake to order each cake tasting plate so we do need at least 3 business days notice. Tastings are $25 and we will need a credit card number to book the appointment.

Q. Do you make cupcakes & cookies & cake pops?
A. YES! We bake cupcakes in all flavors. One dozen minimum, one flavor per dozen, $36 per dozen. We also create gluten-free cupcakes! Our sugar decorated cookies are very popular for favors as well and average between $4 – $6 each. We also take orders for French Macarons. See pricing options here.

Q. Do you make anything else? 
A. We can also create faux cakes for all media needs – print, film, tv, etc. Inquire about our dessert table menu options too!
