FAQ & Pricing

How come you are not open like a retail bakery? Do I really have to make an appointment?

The Hudson Cakery operates like a caterer. We have nothing readily available for you to purchase same day as everything is made to order. Because of the custom nature of our business, we need some time to prep your order so we need at least 4+ weeks notice. WE DO NOT ACCEPT WALK-INS – email or call us first for an inquiry.

No, you do not need to make an actual appointment to place an order. Simply call or email us with your event details and we will respond with pricing and design ideas. “By Appointment Only” is a fancy way of saying “So sorry, but we do not sell readily available baked goods”.

Do you ship your cakes or sweets?
The Hudson Cakery cannot ship our cakes as they are too fragile.
How much are your custom cakes and wedding cakes?

Because each cake is custom made for each event, there is no general price list for our creations. Anything that can feed 50 guests or less usually has a flat fee. Each cake that feeds more than 50 guests is priced per slice. Our cakes range from $8 to $15/slice and increase depending on detail. Because of the detail and attention we give to each order, we must require a minimum $300 minimum for all tiered cakes.

Where do you deliver and how much is it? Is it safe to pick up the order?

We are limited on delivery unless it’s a wedding or large order – we always deliver for those special events. We deliver anywhere in the NY Tri-state area with enough notice. Delivery charges are a flat fee based on location.

Yes it is absolutely safe to pick up your order! Everything is cold and/or boxed individually for safe travel. Please place your cake box on a flat surface in your car (i.e. back trunk) where your air conditioning may reach it. Do not put your cake on a slanted back seat. To ensure a smooth delivery, please drive slow and steady.

Is a deposit necessary to reserve my wedding/event date?
Yes, a 50% deposit is needed to reserve your order. All deposits are non-refundable. Final balances are due ten days prior to event.
How far in advance should I order a cake?

The sooner the better – but we suggest at least 3 to 8 months in advance for wedding or large orders. Most of the time we book up about 4+ weeks in advance. We’d be happy to accommodate last minute orders if our schedule allows. But it is never too soon to book your order!!!

Do you offer tastings to potential clients?

We no longer hosting in-person tastings. However, you may pre-purchase our tasting platter that comfortably feeds 2-3. It is a set platter of 6 cakes and 10+ fillings. It’s a one-time flat $30 fee (not per person).

Do you make anything else?
We can also create faux cakes for all media needs – print, film, tv, etc.
